Extreme Weather Hits HomeThey might not look great on the proverbial coffee table, but this trio of new tomes makes a good-and timely-addition to design libraries. Green Building A to Z: Understanding the Language of Green Building (New Society Publishers, 2007) by Jerry Yudelson defines words, terms and concepts about sustainable design. Extreme Weather Hits Home: Protecting Your Buildings From Climate Change (New Society Publishers, 2007) by John Banta discusses everything from melting permafrost and flooding to drought and wildfires, and how they affect buildings. Color, Space, Style (Rockport Publishers, 2007) by Chris Grimley and Mimi Love is a guide to all the details interior designers need to know, but can never find. www.newsociety.com, www.rockpub.com, www.colorspacestyle.com.

Sanchez TableFather-and-son furniture makers Andy and Aaron Sanchez have created a new sofa table made from dead-standing alligator juniper wood. Other pieces, including beds, dining tables, vanities, rockers and sculpture, as well as custom work, are also available. www.andysanchez.com.

Arizona Tile's terracotta onyx
Arizona Tile's terracotta onyx closeupArizona Tile's new terracotta onyx slab is quarried in Hierapolis, Turkey and processed in Carrara, Italy, using centuries-old hand-working techniques to fill and repair small pits and fissures. Available in 3/4-inch thickness, the material is suitable for interior wall, fireplace, tub-surround and vanity use.
