Kitchen Cabinetry

Be it sleek stainless steel or rustic carved wood, kitchen cabinetry defines the space and forms its function. Here are some new looks that would make Mother Hubbard jealous.

The B3 Monoblock from Bulthaup is handcrafted minimalism. The stainless-steel base units, set within a stainless-steel shell, can be used as a freestanding island, as a peninsula or against a wall. It's crafted to appear as a solid block of metal, with no visible seams. The base units are free of handles, adding to the monolithic look. The patented adjustable ball-bearing cabinet hinge by Sun Valley Bronze is a low-friction, smooth-operating unit that is available in three sizes, six patinas and a selection of eight finials. NYLoft Kitchens & Home Interiors has launched Xera, a new line of stainless-steel cabinetry inspired by professional kitchens. The modern cabinetry line is made of austenitic stainless steel, used in restaurant kitchens and industrial applications, which is resistant to corrosion and heat. St. Charles Cabinetry can be found in the most iconic of American homes, such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House. This American classic, now a division of the Viking Range Corporation, is a frameless, full-overlay line of cabinetry. Dutch Made offers two lines of cabinetry, the elegant and detailed Traditional and the clean-lined Genesis, shown here. Omni Cabinets is known for its custom kitchen designs, such as the Arizona project shown here done with Pedini cabinetry, an Italian product, made with horizontally grained cherry. An expansive island with full-extension pullout drawers, a pullout pantry and tall cabinets provide ample storage. Granite countertops and backsplash complete the setting. European Design, founded by Allan Rosenthal, specializes in custom cabinetry design and fabrication. A recent kitchen project, shown here, was created by Arizona interior designer Sherry Hauser, ASID, of hHh, Inc., who teamed with European Design's lead product designer Charlie Scott to produce a contemporary, family-friendly space. Curves and angles mark the kitchen, which is anchored by block mottled makore wood cabinetry, inlaid with a subtle black grid and topped with black granite countertops. The cabinetry drawers feature Blumotion shock-absorber closures. European Design also crafted the island's lighting system, a series of suspended acrylic panels. Draper-DBS, Inc. custom cabinetry is made with premium wood selections and features pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery and hand-planed surfaces. Interiors are finished with birch plywood; drawer boxes are constructed of solid maple and use a self-closure system. Bastide, the modular cabinetry collection from Grange Furniture, Inc., is inspired by the styles of the area surrounding Aix-en-Provence in France, a region known for its colors of cream, red and blue-grey. The collection features a traditionally applied patina and includes pieces made from solid French oak, assembled using pegged mortise-and-tenon joints.
