Who says wine cellars must be made of wood? A recent custom wine cellar was created using Evonik Cyro’s Acrylite GP .944 acrylic sheet. Designed and fabricated by Architectural Plastics, Inc. for architect Houman Sharif of Butler Armsden Architects of San Francisco, California, the contemporary cellar provides a transparent showcase that has the structural integrity to support the weight of thousands of full bottles of wine. The custom-designed cellar includes bins and drawers. Exposed electrical equipment was obstructed from view by using sandblasted acrylic pedestals. The acrylic sheet is cell-cast and offers excellent optical characteristics, thickness tolerances, light stability, low internal stress levels for consistent performance and numerous times the breakage resistance of standard window glass. www.cyro.com.
