ASID Foundation Receives $300,000 Gift
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Foundation has received a gift in the amount of $300,000 to start the David Barrett Memorial Scholarship Fund. The gift was left by David Barrett, FASID, who died on Dec. 8, 2008. Throughout his 58-year career, Barrett practiced mainly residential design. He has lectured, appeared on television and his work has been published in several major design publications.
The first David Barrett Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in 2012 and will be open to both undergraduate and graduate students attending an accredited college or university and majoring in interior design. The student’s work must demonstrate a continuing interest and ability in utilizing classical designs and traditional materials.
“This is a wonderful gift for the Foundation and for the interior design industry,” said Penny Bonda, FASID, foundation chair. “There is immeasurable value in education and as designers we understand the importance of supporting young talent. David’s generosity will have a big impact on the Foundation.”
